The Metropolitan Museum of Art produced this brooch in 1975 to mark the Scythian Gold Treasures exhibition from the State Hermitage Museum, one of the most significant cultural exchanges of the era. Sculpted by Augustin Medina after a 4th century BC Scythian lion artifact, the piece captures the ancient form in textured 24 karat gold plated brass, with the crouching pose, finely engraved mane, and powerful curve of the body that defined Scythian goldwork. Signed MMA on the reverse, this Metropolitan Museum of Art Scythian Lion brooch is from 1975 to 1976.

Dimensions: length 3 inches

Each piece at Georgie's is a singular, one of a kind vintage or antique find, sourced with care and chosen for its quality and character. Thoughtfully researched and carrying its own story, what may appear as patina or gentle wear is consistent with age, all part of a history waiting for its next chapter.
