The Fostoria Glass Company was founded in Fostoria, Ohio, United States, in 1887 by Lucius B. Libbey, and had a history that spanned over a century until they closed in 1986. Initially, the company was called the "Fostoria Shade and Lamp Company," specializing in producing oil lamps and lampshades. Then in 1891, the company underwent a significant transformation and shifted its focus to glassware production; changing its name to the "Fostoria Glass Company". During the mid-20th century, Fostoria experienced significant growth and saw some of its most successful years. This exquisitely rare green opalescent Fostoria starburst platter originates from the 1960s to 1970s period.
